Requirement to Report Concerns

Beginning in fall 2025, all non-confidential U-M employees (including faculty, staff and student employees) are required to share information with ECRT. Confidential Resources鈥攐ffices or individuals who do not have reporting obligations鈥攃ontinue to be designated under the policies.

Confidential resources include employees with the Faculty and Staff Counseling and Consultation Office (FASCCO), university ombuds (for students, staff, and faculty), and Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS).

Employees may, but do not have to, report disclosures when they happen under certain, generally uncommon, scenarios such as at a sexual assault awareness community event, general classroom discussion, or institutional review board (IRB) approved research project. Learn more about .

Failure by an employee to promptly report to ECRT information they receive about alleged prohibited conduct is a violation of policy, and may result in disciplinary action.

Once a report is made, ECRT will reach out to the Complainant, the person making the report or reported to have experienced the behavior, to offer resources, support and information about possible next steps, including how to file a formal complaint.
