Entrepreneurship
Below are a few of the resources and connections available to help with your business ideas.
The College of Business now offers students an Entrepreneurship Minor and a Certificate in Entrepreneurship.
UM-Dearborn Business Idea Pitch
The UM-Dearborn Business Idea Pitch Competition helps students build skills in marketing, critical thinking, and communication. Students develop these skills by learning about some of the region's most pressing concerns. By pitching their creative ideas for solving these issues, students have a chance to win cash prizes.
National Entrepreneurship Week
During National Entrepreneurship Week, which takes place during the third week of February annually, iLabs hosted two events to celebrate the spirit of entrepreneurship.
iLabs hosted the Small Business Showcase, a pop-up vendor style event featuring local, alumni, student, and staff businesses. Business owners were able to engage with the UM-Dearborn community by sharing their products and services with faculty, staff, and students. The small businesses included custom embroidered clothing, plants, candles, pottery, and more!
The Female Entrepreneur Panel featured five inspiring, successful female entrepreneurs, four of which were UM-Dearborn alumni. The panelists shared their unique journeys to entrepreneurship, challenges, and thoughtful advice for future business owners.
Women Entrepreneurship Week
To celebrate Women Entrepreneurship Week, local entrepreneurs shared their experiences with College of Business students through a day of panel discussions and vendor tables.
ENT 400: Entrepreneurial Thinking & Behavior
Students engaged in a rapid prototyping exercise to learn about problem solving using a favorite childhood toy.
eCities
eCities is iLabs' annual research study that examines community-level factors that influence entrepreneurship, economic development, and job growth. Local communities who participate in the project receive benchmarking reports that help leaders evaluate their efforts in supporting local business and encouraging entrepreneurial growth.
