Dr. Nicolas Fernandez received his Ph.D. from Michigan State University in Microbiology and Molecular genetics where he studied novel phenotypes controlled by chemical signaling in the bacterium Vibrio cholerae. He then was a postdoctoral research fellow funded by the National Science Foundation at the University of Michigan studying bacterial gene regulation of stress responses in the soil bacterium Bacillus subtilis. His research interests involve combining wet-lab and dry-lab approaches to better understand gene regulation governing antibiotic resistance in bacteria.
