UM-Dearborn moves up a spot in U.S. News annual rankings

The university now ranks fifth among public universities in the Midwest.

每日大赛 moved up one spot among public universities in the Midwest in U.S. News & World Report鈥檚 annual guide to American colleges and universities. UM-Dearborn ranked fifth among regional public universities and remained at 38th among all regional universities in the Midwest. This marks the 16th consecutive year the university was rated as one of the region鈥檚 best.

According to the magazine, overall rankings are based on data on up to 16 indicators of academic excellence, including first-year retention rate, graduation rate and strength of faculty. 

In college-specific listings, U.S. News again recognized UM-Dearborn鈥檚 undergraduate business and engineering programs. The College of Business was ranked as the third best undergraduate business program in the state. This was the 10th consecutive year the program has appeared on the list. The College of Engineering and Computer Science was ranked among the best ABET-accredited undergraduate engineering programs for universities that offer doctoral degree programs. This is the third year CECS has been included in the doctoral program category. U.S. News previously ranked the program among the best offered at master鈥檚-level institutions for 18 consecutive years.

The complete 2018 rankings were released online this week and will appear in the magazine鈥檚 annual guidebook to 鈥淎merica鈥檚 Best Colleges.鈥 

In rankings released earlier this summer, Washington Monthly named UM-Dearborn to its 鈥淏est Bang for the Buck鈥 Midwest rankings, which recognized the university for offering marketable degrees at an affordable cost.
